    Renault launch newly-liveried R30

Renault joined Sauber in presenting its 2010 car at Valencia on Sunday afternoon – unveiling a striking new livery as it officially drew a line under its traumatic 2009 and began preparations for the coming season under new management.

With previous title sponsor ING having departed, the new R30 sports the yellow and black colour scheme that was the trademark of the French manufacturer during its first stint in Formula 1 in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

The team also confirmed its full driver line-up, announcing that 25-year-old Russian Vitaly Petrov will race alongside established star Robert Kubica (story here), with Ho-Pin Tung as third driver and Jérôme d’Ambrosio and Jan Charouz as reserves.

Renault described its new challenger as “a mixture of evolution and revolution” and “much more svelte and attractive” than its notoriously ungainly predecessor.

More importantly, the team hopes the R30 will deliver a step forward in competitiveness after a 2009 campaign that was disastrously unsuccessful by its standards.

Speaking at the presentation, team principal Eric Boullier was cautiously optimistic about Renault’s chances of making progress.

“We’ve been working flat-out during the winter to ensure that we begin the new season in the best shape possible,” he said.

“The R30 should be a competitive, strong and reliable car, and we've opted for an aggressive development strategy throughout the season.

“Now we’re here ready for the first test and we’re all excited to see if the car performs as we think it will.”
