Gerhard Berger is in talks with Renault over a team principle role at Renault, suggest reports

Berger could become new Renault boss

Gerhard Berger will join the Renault F1 Team in 2010 as team manager, French website AUTOhebdo.fr has suggested. The former Ferrari driver and Toro Rosso boss will join the Enstone team for which he drove for two seasons.

Renault has been rumoured to have been looking for a team principle since the departure of Flavio Briatore and it seems that Gerhard Berger is in pole position to inherit the post in 2010.

After the departure of the Italian after the imfamous 'crash-gate' scandal that shook F1 last year, Renault had called upon technical director Bob Bell to fill, pending the end of the season to rework its organization.

After buying a stake in Genii Capital, the Enstone team could complete a major management reshuffle by appointing Berger as head of the team.

The Austrian, who retired as a F1 driver in 1997, spent much of his career with Ferrari, but also drover for McLaren and Benetton, the latter of which became the Renault team as we know it in 2002.

Berger and could bring to Renault an important role: to restore vibrant colors to a team whose image has been severely tarnished in 2009.
