Petronas to sponsor Yamaha in 3-year deal

Malaysian oil company sign a deal with world champion squad

The Fiat Yamaha team has signed an agreement with oil and gas company Petronas, which becomes title sponsor for the next three seasons. The deal will see logos on the two bikes of Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo as well as overalls and other team equipment.

The Japanese and Malaysian companies are already linked, however, as Yamaha uses Yamalube engine oils - made by Petronas - for components on certain engines. "This is a very exciting development for Yamaha and for the sport of MotoGP," said Lin Jarvis, Managing Director of Yamaha Motor Racing. "Yamaha and Petronas already have a successful business relationship away from racing, and this new, long-term, business partnership will see the ties between the two multi-national companies strengthened further. It is especially good to see a global company of Petronas' stature making the decision to enter into our sport at this difficult time, and we look forward to working hand-in-hand with them to develop a long and mutually beneficial relationship."

Although the Petronas logo consists of green, white and black, it is still unknown as to exactly how the bikes will be presented - there is little time remaining to find out though, with practice for the Qatar Grand Prix this Friday.
