Vauxhall begin first UK test of 2009

VX Racing today tested its 2009-spec Vauxhall Vectras at Snetterton – the first time that the reigning champion outfit has run its cars in the UK this year in the run-up to the new HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship season.

All three of the team’s drivers – Fabrizio Giovanardi, Matt Neal and Andrew Jordan – were in action with their cars clearly in interim livery (see pic above). All three circulated on what became an increasingly greasy track thanks to afternoon rain. Previously, the VXR trio had tested only overseas, in Spain.

Giovanardi will be going for his third straight BTCC Drivers’ crown in 2009, but knows that the fiercely determined Neal – who won the title in 2005 and 2006 – will be eager to stop him and add a third championship of his own as he enters his second season with Vauxhall’s factory team.

Jordan, meanwhile, could not be alongside two better mentors – still aged only 19, he has joined the modern day BTCC’s most successful team after a stunning debut season in 2008.

Also in action today at Snetterton was rapid veteran David Pinkney who was at the wheel of Team Dynamics’ Honda Civic. Dynamics has yet to confirm its 2009 driver line-up, although should he part of it then the ever-jovial Pinkney, aged 51, would be the oldest driver on the current grid…
