Scuderia Toro Rosso 2009 Driver Line-up

Post by Alex on 13th November 2008, 16:13

So, with the 2008 season over, and Sebastian Vettel moving on to Red Bull, STR have two race seats to fill for 2009. Current driver Sebastien Bourdais, yet to be re-signed for next year, will be joined by former Super Aguri pilot Takuma Sato and Red Bull protégé Sebastien Buemi at next week's Barcelona test.
But who should be signed for next year? Discuss...

Don't forget Bruno Senna. Hes offered them $15 Million for a drive. If he doesn't go to Honda to replace Rubens or become a 3rd driver.

    NO.

Senna will not get a race seat next year because I won't let him.

I reckon he needs two seasons of testing before he should be considered, or even another season in GP2.

It could ruin his career if he gets a drive and he is shit.

Im not saying he should but he and his sponsors have stumped up $15million for a drive. I cant see STR turning that down nor Berger turning his back on Senna's legacy. Honda also not running with a sponsor could do with $15millon.

Honda have all the money in the world, money means nothing to them.

Toro Rosso, granted, would be tempted by the money, and Vivianne Senna could just call him up and he'd hire Bruno, but I think he's doing it the professional way.

I think Senna is making a huge mistake trying to get a drive.

However, if he made it you cant knock him. He said he would get to the grid in 09 and you cant blame a guy for following his dream. Thing is the Senna name will always be his burden as much as it will help him. Many sons have raced Damon, Jacques and many other but being the nephew of the great Ayrton Senna is a hard act to follow.

what if they take up Senna's $15million but he is shit, l then it wudnt be worth it in the long run, for senna or STR. It depends on what is more important to STR, points or money

Good point. The biggest burden that the Senna name carries, which is most prominent at this stage in his career, is the status. Teams would snap up a Senna so quickly for the status, which could be too soon.

True, but let's not write of Senna just yet...

Piquet has however, showed promise in the latter stages of the season. I think Senna has what it takes to score points, should he be in an STR. I do believe He will be outscored by Bourdais, another driver with a stronger end to the season.

Thanks Alex lol, we were going a bit off topic haha

So who do we think should be hired next year?

    Personally, Bourdais and Sato

Buemi is overrated, as is di Grassi.

    and LMAO Alex, good point.

di Grassi will go Honda. I'm expecting Buemi or Sato as a cert. 2nd seat will probably go to Bourdais if Sato and Buemi don't take both seats. Again Senna might nick a seat.

I think if they lined the five options up, Bourdais will be first pick.

Bourdais would be a good choice, although the second season is sometimes harder than the first. Bourdais is an extremely capable driver, however

Hmm i'd be surprised if they did pick him.

Theres always Liuzzi too, they could make an announcement saying they will test him next week - not too sure.

Rumour has it though, that Liuzzi had a clause in his Force India testing contract saying that he will get an '09 drive with them not matter what.
