    Renault launches 2009's fifth car

Renault has taken the wraps off the R29 design on which its 2009 world championship hopes rest.

The former champion team is determined to be a title contender this year, having been buoyed by Fernando Alonso's late-season charge ā€“ including back-to-back victories in Singapore and Japan ā€“ last year.

The car, which will test for the first time at Portimao today, features new sponsorship from Total and a revised livery.

It also features a more aggressively sculpted rear bodywork than other 2009 cars revealed so far.

Alonso and Nelson Piquet stay on as race drivers.

By the end of last season, Renault had closed the gap to the front-runners significantly, despite a power deficit.

Engineering director Pat Symonds told that the team could still be at a slight disadvantage with straightline speed.

Renault had disbanded most of its F1 engine department when the engine freeze was instigated, so could not exploit the loopholes its rivals found ā€“ resulting in an estimated deficit of 35bhp.

Changes to the exhaust system and improved fuel from Elf closed the gap, and Symonds reckoned that a rules break from the FIA had already allowed Renault to reduce the remaining deficit by half during the winter.

Alonso will look for a third championship and Piquet will look to prove himself with the R29

Renault's new car is the most unusual looking yet, with much 'boxier' front end
